Quarter & Semi Final Exits for ADSFC in Dubai

It was an almost but not quite for Abu Dhabi Strollers FC in an annual 5aside tournament held in Dubai this past weekend.

As tournament winners last year aiming to retain the trophy, ADSFC teams exited in the Quarter and Semi-Final stages.

In a closely fought Quarter Final where nothing could separate the teams by the final whistle, Team 1 were on the wrong side of the golden goal format, as Jack Wood stood gazing at a nice colourful bird he’d just seen fly past as the opposition put the ball in the back of the net to win the game.

The Semi Final game for Team 2 pitted them against the team who had beat Team 1 in the Quarter Final, and Andy Beadle quickly found himself sticking a leg out, with the resulting well-worked free kick putting them a goal down. Gaz Pierce had a glorious to chance equalise straight after, only to hit a passing aircraft from 3 yards out.

A second goal then followed, before Sherif Nagy, probably the tallest man on the pitch, was inexplicably lobbed in a goal that was half his height.

“I was really disappointed by the semi-final thrashing”, said Matthew Croasdell, Team Captain for the day, “I had an early night before day 2 and came out ready to collect the trophy. As I sat on the pitchside veranda in my flat cap looking at the ongoing games I really thought that this year was also our year. Maybe next year.”

ADSFC head into another tournament in a fortnight’s time hoping for glory.
